Baby Shower Saga: Guest Note Cards

The baby shower saga continues {it started here}

I spent way longer than I care to admit fiddling with colors and size... but here they are,
the baby shower message cards!

Good-
  • just enough of the Pooh theme
  • lots of room for people to write lots of warm fuzzies on there
  • can be kidnapped in post-party clean up to be used later in  a scrapbook (sneaky me....mwahahha!)

Bad-
  • Flimsy on the regular paper. See how see through it is?
  • Cheap looking..gahhh!

Ignore the spongy green and brown pieces underneath. I was testing some inkpads (explained further down).

The next few minutes went  something like this:
  1. Get frustrated and walk away
  2. Complain to the hubby
  3. Walk away from hubby when he tells me "she'll like whatever you do." Men just don't get it, do they?
  4. Admit silently to myself that he is totally right.
  5. Regroup. Think Logically.

Still here? Okay...

The flimsy problem is easy to fix-
I have tons of 12"x12" cardstock stashed away (I always take them out of my scrapbook refill pages). If you don't hoard cardstock, you can find some for cheap at any craft store.
Cut it down to 8.5"x11.5", printed a test sheet. Much better!
but..... I think it is still just too white.

Solution: printed it on creme cardtock. It warms it up but is light enough to still be used as a message card. Sweet!

I sliced and diced 'em down and dabbed a green stamp ink pad along the edges to add a pop of color.

I printed a quick sign with instructions for guests to sign the cards on 4"x6" photo paper and stuck it in an empty frame, to be displayed with the cards.

Here they are finished and ready to go! What do you think??

Want 'em for your own baby shower saga?
You got it!  Grab the goods here from my Free Printables page {here}.  It'll save your ink and paper and sanity (unless you're into doing a bajillion color test sheets, which if you are, more power to ya).

Hrmm.. now i just need to stop blog-hopping and clean...

So, how does this baby shower thing work?

I was the first of my college friends to get married.  I thought it was so funny when they'd ask, "so how does this whole bridesmaid's thing work? What do we have to do?"

Now the tables have turned. My good friend and her husband have welcomed home their beautiful baby boy!!  In a brief lapse of sanity I volunteered to do decorations.

As per request of the new mommy, the theme is Winnie the Pooh.

I'll admit it - when I heard pooh I thought of yellow and red . Immediately I went into prinary color overload, thought of McDonald's and cringed a little. Eekk.

You can imagine my relief when I got the invitation in the mail and saw that the host picked up earthy-toned Baby Pooh invites and other part paraphanalia. Okay, not totally original but deffinately do-able.

It's this weekend. errmmmm ya...
... what's a baby shower first-timer to do?
Mild panic set in and I did the only thing I could think of-
Frantically start searching blogland for help!

A few hours later I am armed with with these inspirational tutorials/images and a cup of wine..

Let's do this thing!

SO here's what I'm thinking:

  • Colors: somewhere in-between the pastel - to - summer brights color scheme like these
  • Patterns: polka dots/circles
  • Images: Classic Pooh and honey bees

Here's what I have so far:
  • Army of circles for garlandy thing
  • Message cards
  • Baby's name in polka dot paper (not sure how to incorporate that yet??)
  • Many papercuts
So far it's been fun, and I think It can still come together
but oh.         good.         grief...
...it has been UBER time consuming.

I wouldn't wish the paper cuts I've gotten on anyone.... Which is why when this is all done, I'll save you from the agony and provide you all with the free printables :)
